APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal Pty Ltd to manage operations of its coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point - Australias northernmost coal port - located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays. Abbot Point Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. Were looking for someone proactive and passionate about safety, ready to make a real difference on the ground. In this role, youll take a handson approach to delivering key health and safety services while supporting the continuous improvement of our safety systems. Working closely with the HSEC Manager and HS Coordinators, youll help ensure our operations remain safe, efficient, and sustainable for everyone involved. What Youll Do Partner with supervisors and team leaders, coaching them to embed safety into daily operations Mentor line leaders on conducting effective prestarts, risk assessments, and safety conversations Support the facilitation of formal risk assessments and changemanagement processes to ensure hazards and impacts are identified, controlled, and communicated Carry out infield safety audits, inspections, and verifications of critical controls and safe work procedures Provide immediate, practical feedback to leaders and workers to improve safety outcomes Support incident response and investigations, focusing on identifying learnings and preventative actions Monitor contractor activities in the field to ensure compliance with HS requirements Escalate risks and contribute to continuous improvement of APOs safety systems and culture What Were Looking For Proven experience in a health and safety role, ideally in a heavy industry, terminal or mining environment Strong knowledge of HS systems, audit processes, and regulatory compliance Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to influence safety culture through leadership and collaboration Qualifications in Health and Safety or a related discipline Experience with contractor management and onboarding processes is desirable Why Join Us?
