Principal Designer Transport & Civil Infrastructure Brisbane or Sunshine Coast | Flexible + WFH | Lead, Mentor & Shape Projects Join a well-established, privately owned consultancy with more than 35 years delivering transport, civil and infrastructure projects across Queensland. With strong technical capability and a diverse client base, this is a senior role where youll lead design outcomes while also influencing project scope, quality and team development. The Opportunity As Principal Designer, youll work autonomously across a range of civil and transport projectstaking responsibility for scoping, estimating, preparing offers, delivering complex designs and ensuring quality, cost and time targets are met. Youll also guide and mentor design staff, contribute to project planning, and build strong relationships with clients and local authorities. While based in Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast, youll enjoy the flexibility of hybrid work and the support of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. This role suits someone ready to step into a leadership-focused position that combines technical excellence with project oversight and team guidance. What Youll Be Doing Scoping design projects, preparing offers and supporting bid documentation Producing complex civil and road designs Preparing design documents, assessments, cost estimates and reports Overseeing quality, budget tracking, variations and project timelines Supervising and mentoring designers and technical staff Liaising directly with clients, managing queries and building relationships Collaborating with the design manager on technical direction and challenges Ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, state guidelines and best practice What You Bring Associate Diploma (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering 15+ years experience in road design, civil infrastructure or related disciplines Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modelling (12D or Civil 3D) Strong understanding of Austroads, state standards and regulatory requirements Experience supervising staff and contributing to team development Financial and project management capability, including cost control A proactive, detail-focused approach and strong communication skills Why This Role Stands Out Long-established, privately owned consultancy with strong repeat clients Opportunity to lead design direction and influence project outcomes Hybrid working environment with flexibility as standard Paid overtime Supportive, relationship-driven culture with low bureaucracy A technically strong, collaborative team that values mentorship and quality If youre looking for a senior design role that offers variety, growth and a genuinely supportive team culture, this is an opportunity to step into something broader.
