Our mission is to develop life-changing treatments for glaucoma and other optic nerve diseases that cause irreversible blindness.Learn more about the Snow Vision Accelerator:successful candidate will join the Axon Degeneration Laboratory, led by Dr Andrea Loreto, which focuses on understanding how metabolic dysfunction and ageing contribute to optic nerve degeneration. Our research spans cutting-edge imaging technologies, drug discovery from small molecules to gene therapy, metabolomics, and experimental models ranging from human neurons to mouse and non-human primates.You will be part of a dynamic, collaborative research team working alongside scientists and clinicians across the Snow Vision Accelerator, based in the state-of-the-art Charles Perkins Centre.Your key responsibilities will be to:conduct original research in NAD biology and axon degeneration, with a focus on drug discovery and optic nerve diseaseslead projects independently and as part of a team.collaborate with teams across the Snow Vision Accelerator and actively contribute to its missiondisseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.provide informal mentoring and guidance to junior team members, including undergraduate and PhD studentsfoster a positive and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence, and outcome-driven work.About youPhD in Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Vision Sciences, or a related fieldexperience working with iPSC-derived neuronal cultures and primary neuronsexperience with mouse models of neurodegenerationexpertise in axon degeneration and NAD biologyexcellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsproven ability to work collaboratively in a team settingproven record of producing original, high-quality research that has resulted in peer-reviewed academic publicationsstrong organisational and time management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.Pre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
