Primary objective Develop and deliver culturally appropriate and effective services for Aboriginal children, through sound and professional advice to Team Leaders, Managers and Executives on issues relating to Aboriginal Child Protection, Foster Care and other specialist services in the Region. Key duties and responsibilities Provide evidence-based advice to Team Leaders, Managers and Executives on matters relating to the delivery of effective and culturally appropriate Aboriginal child and family services in the Region. Develop and implement cultural learning, coaching and mentoring strategies that assist staff in providing high level services to Aboriginal children and their families that is consistent with Departmental policy and legislation. Implement quality assurance mechanisms that support the monitoring and continuous improvement of services to Aboriginal children and their families. Facilitate and support the implementation of Aboriginal specific care and protection and service delivery strategies within the Department. Contribute to the improvement of cultural practice standards and policy initiatives relating to Aboriginal children, such as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles. Participate in complex case management for Aboriginal children, including risk assessments and the development of Care and Cultural Plans. Provide support and advice regarding networking with Aboriginal stakeholders, non-government organisations and the local community. Selection criteria Essential Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cultural issues, family and community dynamics, relationships and complexities, as well as the political sensitivities of Aboriginal communities particularly in relation to Child Protection and Foster Care services. Extensive practical experience and advanced skills and knowledge relating to the support and protection of Aboriginal children and their families. Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and advice on issues involving services to Aboriginal children and the ability to provide related training, coaching and mentoring to all levels of staff. Demonstrated ability to apply a strengths based/capacity building approach to staff development activities, community development and case practice. Demonstrated ability in effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders at all levels, both orally and in writing, including the ability to communicate across cultures and professional backgrounds. Demonstrated commitment to self-development, professional integrity and impartiality. Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and an ability and willingness to undertake training in Departmental and Work Unit specific computer systems. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures. Desirable Hold a current NT Drivers Licence or the ability to acquire an NT Drivers Licence for a manual vehicle. Relevant qualifications (e.g., degree in Community Services, Social Work, Community Development).
