Job SummaryOffers are open for an enthusiastic and passionate candidate to join the Department of Older People''s Medicine at Ipswich Hospital, part of East Suffolk and North East Essex Foundation Trust, as a substantive consultant. Fulltime, parttime and flexible working opportunities are considered. The department is rolling out the Epic electronic health record in 2025 and is developing services that start in the community virtual ward care, specialist assessment in the emergency department and seamless care in the frailty assessment base. The role is patientcentred and underpinned by specialist geriatric assessment expertise. Main Duties Run ward rounds on the virtual ward supported by a Staff Grade doctor or SpR, acting as clinical supervisor for the junior team and leading daily consultled board rounds via TEAMS. Work on the Emergency Department FIT team: complete frailty assessments at the front door and cover two sessions per week, with timetable variation and crosscover. Support REACT services and liaise with the Dementia Intensive Support Team, social services and the Red Cross for shortterm deterioration. Manage the hot phone for GP or community therapist queries and coordinate direct transfers from ED requiring specialist assessment. Participate in the GLINT (Geriatric Liaison to the Integrated Neighbourhood Teams) clinic, moving falls assessments into local teams. Possibly join the general medicine oncall rota (1 of 8 weekends, 12hour shift in the Emergency Assessment Unit and overnight availability from home). Person Specification Essential Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatrics or within six months of expected CCT (or eligible for entry within 6 months). MRCP or equivalent. Evidence of working in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to organise and prioritise complex demands. Expert clinical opinion on acute medical emergencies, rehabilitation and intermediate care. Teaching and training skills for junior doctors. Ability to manage risk and endofline decisions. Full driving licence and regular access to a car. Desirable Training in appraisal techniques. Postgraduate diploma or higher degree. Knowledge of national agendas affecting the NHS. Evidence of driving change through audit work. Management training and experience. Training in teaching humanfactor skills. Living within a 10mile radius of the hospital. Salary and Contract Salary: 109,725 to 145,478 per annum.
