Special Counsel Litigation Department of Justice QLD Special Counsel Litigation at the Legal Services Commission has principal responsibility for conducting the more complex litigation on behalf of the Legal Services Commissioner. You will provide leadership to a high performing team that supports the Commissioner in the discharge of a number of regulatory obligations. The role presents an opportunity to contribute to the important work of the Commission and be instrumental in the outcomes of the regulation of Queenslands legal profession. Base pay range: $166,623.00/yr - $174,339.00/yr. In The Role Of Special Counsel Litigation, You Will provide expert legal advice on the Commissioner''s functions, statutory responsibilities and service deliverables conduct litigation on behalf of the Commissioner, including preparing, instructing and appearing in the Commission''s more complex litigation matters, across appeal work, discipline applications, prosecution of summary offences, injunction applications and other enforcement action, as well as conferences and hearings before disciplinary bodies, the courts and other agencies, while adhering to model litigant principles manage the briefing and instructing of counsel from the private bar, and manage other outsourced legal work with solicitors and barristers in private practice review, develop and, where necessary, drive complex legislative and policy change designed to enhance the Commission''s undertaking of its statutory obligations and regulatory functions proactively monitor and, where appropriate, improve policies, procedures, work practice and management systems to enable the Commission to continually improve effective and efficient standards of service advise, mentor, and support the litigation team by actively fostering a team operating environment built on a good work ethic, interactive, consistent work practice, and quality results be admitted as an Australian lawyer and be eligible to obtain a practising certificate in Queensland abide by the Australian Solicitor Conduct Rules (and/or Barristers Conduct Rules where relevant) and display high standards of professional ethical conduct at all times, in addition to any other professional obligations be responsible for a number of statutory delegations on behalf of the Commissioner from time to time be required to travel and stay away from home overnight within Queensland to attend Court or Tribunal hearings. A current driver licence is required for travelling to appearances at Court or Tribunal hearings outside the Brisbane CBD.
