Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural and Community Advisor Help strengthen connections and create positive outcomes for Aboriginal communities. About Us Marsden Families Program (MFP) is a not-for-profit, non-government, community-based organisation that works alongside children, young people, and families referred by the Department of Child Safety. Our mission is to increase safety, strengthen family connections and help children and young people reach their full potential through culturally safe, trauma-informed and family-centred practice. About the Role We are seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, passionate about the wellbeing of children and young people, to join our team as a Cultural and Community Advisor. This role provides cultural knowledge, guidance and community connections that strengthen how we support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families within the child protection system. Responsibilities Building cultural safety and understanding within our team. Providing advice to ensure practice, programs, and policies reflect culturally responsive approaches. Strengthening relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders and service partners. Supporting the integration of cultural perspectives in service delivery, family engagement and staff learning. Guiding our implementation of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, particularly the Universal Principle of Cultural Safety. About You A strong and proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity. Knowledge of community, culture and kinship systems relevant to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Understanding of the child protection and family-support context. Confidence in advising on culturally appropriate practices and supporting organisational learning. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with community and professionals. Previous experience in community services, education or youth/family work is welcomed but not essential lived experience and cultural authority are highly valued.
