We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a professional and skilled community member to join our Audit and Risk Committee (the Committee). The Committee operates under Sections 53 and 54 of the Local Government Act 2020. The role is expected to commence in March 2026 and Council is offering an appointment of up to three years. The Committee meets quarterly at Council''s Beechworth Offices or via Teams. The Committee Charter details full responsibilities of the Committee and is available here Audit and Risk Committee | Indigo Shire Council Within this role, you will be able to: Play an important role in providing oversight of Indigo Shire Council''s governance, risk management and internal control practices Have an impact on the continual improvement of a dynamic small rural Council. Monitor the compliance of Council policies and procedures within: the overarching governance principles; and the Act and the regulations and any Ministerial directions Monitor Council financial and performance reporting Monitor and provide advice on risk management and fraud prevention systems and controls Oversee internal and external audit functions Have professional development opportunities within the scope of Committee activities About you: You''ll have extensive experience in strategic and operational risk management, auditing, financial management, compliance, data governance and/or cybersecurity. You will have experience and understanding of local government or public sector management, including local government accountability frameworks and compliance requirements. Have well developed skills in strategic questioning and inquiry, influencing and negotiating and leadership. Council particularly encourages applications from under-represented backgrounds.
