Metros flagship project, the Bauxite Hills Mine, located 95km north of Weipa is one of the largest independent projects within the internationally acclaimed Weipa Bauxite Region.Metro Mining is currently seeking a highly skilled Chief Engineer for a full-time role onboard our tug, Mandang. Mandang is a 32-metre offshore assisting tug with conventional propulsion.The Chief Engineer leads the comprehensive maintenance and operation of mechanical and electrical systems aboard the Mandang. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with stringent maritime regulations and safety standards.ResponsibilitiesOversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all mechanical and electrical systems.Supervise and coordinate the activities of the engineering team.Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations and safety standards.Implement maintenance schedules for engines, pumps, generators, and other equipment.Conduct troubleshooting and resolution of complex mechanical and electrical issues as they arise, ensuring effective solutions and minimal downtime.Conduct routine inspections and ensure all equipment operates efficiently and safely.Manage the inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring timely ordering and restocking.Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and safety drills.Conduct safety drills and ensure the crew is trained in emergency procedures.Prepare and manage the engineering department budget.Liaise with external contractors and service providers for specialised maintenance and repairs.Ensure the Mandang complies with Queensland and AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) regulations.Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering staff.Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceDiploma of Marine Engineering or higher.Current AMSA Engineer Class 3 NC Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Recognition (minimum).Current AMSA Certificate of Safety Training or evidence of completion of STCW95/10 Basic Safety Training within the last 5 years (training must be current).Current AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness for near coastal seafarers (form 1850). We will also accept Form 303 for International Seafarers.Current GMDSS Radio Operator Certificate desirable but not required.Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency desirable but not required.7-10 years of experience in marine engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior engineering role.Excellent mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.Proficiency in using maintenance and diagnostic tools.Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, safety procedures and best practices.Excellent seamanship, navigation and problem-solving skills.Strong situational awareness and ability to operate autonomously.A strong team player with a proven ability to work well with others to get the job done.Great communication skills with the confidence to connect and work well with others.A calm and clear thinker who can make good decisions under pressure, especially in challenging or emergency situations.An eye for detail with a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and getting tasks done the right way.What We Offer:4 weeks on and 4 weeks off rosterFlights from/to home portTo Apply: Please be sure to include a current CV and cover letter with your application.
