The City Planning branch at Blue Mountains City Council has the exciting and challenging responsibility to deliver high quality strategic land use planning for a City within a World Heritage Area of outstanding natural beauty and value. We have over twenty-five towns and villages, each with a distinct local character and community, that together with our position on the edge of Sydney and within a World Heritage Area, gives rise to strategic planning opportunities truly not offered anywhere else. A full-time position for a program leader is available within the City Planning branch. The team is responsible for City-wide strategic planning through the delivery of the Local Strategic Planning Statement, preparation of town centre master plans and strategic planning policies (such as the Local Housing Strategy) as well as management of the Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan. The role will lead and contribute to key projects across the planning functions of the City Planning service, including master planning work for key centres, LEP Amendments and DCP updates, as well as key advocacy work in relation to state government planning initiatives. This also includes working with, influencing, and guiding groups within Council and external agencies to achieve Council''s strategic planning objectives. The role reports to the Manager, City Planning and will supervise a small team. The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in town planning or related discipline and have a demonstrated high level of experience and capability in the development of strategic land use plans and policies, master plans, and LEP and DCP amendments. A passion for community engagement and customer service, and the ability to demonstrate great people management skills to lead a small team, is also essential.
