The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation (Wurundjeri Corporation) is a Registered Aboriginal Party appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. The Corporation holds statutory responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal intangible heritage on Wurundjeri Country. Additional functions of the Corporation include, environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, research and cultural consultations. Position: Yarra Strategic Plan Lead Full-time, 2-year fixed term contract - Healesville or Abbotsford head office with flexible work arrangements. About the Role The Narrap Unit is the dedicated Caring for Country unit of WWCHAC. The unit incorporates two distinct but connected programs - the Ranger Program and the Water Program - and centres itself on asserting and maintaining Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung cultural rights and responsibilities of protecting and caring for Country. The unit also creates opportunities for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and other First Nations people to have culturally meaningful, secure work that supports professional development and the continued management of country. WWCHAC is focused on achieving Wurundjeri water rights and justice, community directed decision-making and restoring and managing healthy water on Country. The Water Program is WWCHAC''s dedicated team responsible for leading work related to water planning, management, and governance. The Water Program is situated in the Narrap Unit - the broader Country management unit - and works closely with the Ranger Program and other unit staff. This role is responsible for pursuing and progressing WWCHAC''s interests and objectives through Burndap Birrarung burndap umarkoo/Yarra Strategic Plan (BBBU) and other related responsibilities under the Yarra River Protection (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act 2017. The position will lead WWCHAC''s engagement and participation in the implementation of the Act and the BBBU and the associated forums. Key Responsibilities Act as the primary liaison for engagement with WWCHAC on the BBBU. Engage closely with all levels of government, particularly the listed Responsible Public Entities (RPEs) under the Yarra River Protection Act, including representing WWCHAC on the Yarra Collaboration Committee. Support project design, resourcing and delivery through the implementation of the BBBU. Where directed by your manager, facilitate engagement with external consultants by developing project scope and briefs, managing procurement, and acting as primary contact through contract execution. Lead reporting and evaluation of the BBBU internally and externally as required. Provide input to development or review of legislation, policies, and strategies for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung water related issues as required. Source, document and summarise technical information to be considered by Elders, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung community and staff. Advocate for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung rights and interests as Traditional Owners and act as a role model for the Wurundjeri Corporation in all that you do. About You Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, such as natural resource management, environmental science, environmental or public policy, environmental law, anthropology, archaeology or a related discipline is advantageous but not required. At least 5 years of experience working in a similar role. National Police Check. Working with Children''s Check. Previous experience working directly with Traditional Owner groups. Knowledge and appreciation of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung culture, history and connection to waterways. Strong understanding of the Victorian water sector, including knowledge of existing policies and strategies, particularly pertaining to Traditional Owner involvement in water. Understanding of the Yarra River Protection (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act 2017 and Burndap Birrarung burndap umarkoo is advantageous. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and documents. Experience managing complex projects with a range of stakeholders.
