The Kids Research Institute Australia The Kids Research Institute Australia is one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia. We are dedicated to improving the health and lives of children everywhere through groundbreaking research. Our First Nations Childhood Cancer Research program is a first of its kind and aims to develop new strategies to better treat Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with cancer. The program engages closely with First Nations communities to understand the questions they have, the research they want undertaken, and to ensure the research is culturally safe. The program will empower First Nations communities, transform care, and ultimately ensure that every child has the best chance to thrive after cancer. As our research team grows, we now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Officer/Research Fellow (level dependent on experience) to assist in understanding cancer biology and genomics in First Nations populations. Responsibilities Work closely with collaborators to analyse genomic data, including tumour drivers and pharmacogenomics. Conceptualise, plan and conduct innovative original research. Write original first author publications, contribute to manuscript writing as co-author and mentor students with their manuscript writing. Interact with stakeholders and communicate research outcomes internally, externally and to community. Located within Perth Childrens Hospital in Nedlands, this full-timerole will be offered on an ongoing basis. About You The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree in cancer biology, Indigenous health or related sciences. You will also demonstrate: Extensive knowledge of research methodologies in cancer biology, bioinformatics or pharmacogenomics. Ability to drive successful knowledge generation in past research projects evidenced by papers in internationally respected journals. Successful experience in scientific paper preparation and submissions such as grants and ethics applications. Excellent planning and organisational skills, including setting goals, managing competing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
