Overview Senior Database Engineer role at The Trade Desk. The Trade Desk is a global technology company that handles over 1 trillion queries per day and operates at unprecedented scale. Key Responsibilities Infrastructure tasks: automation of daily tasks, performance testing new SQL Server updates, setting up alerting and log extraction for monitoring. Collaboration with engineering teams to investigate database issues, maintain databases, evaluate best practices, and automate tooling to ensure high availability and optimal performance across the platform. Automation of tasks using TSQL, PowerShell, Ansible, Chef and other tools. Provide daytoday support and maintenance for Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2022 databases. Administer, analyze, support, proactively monitor, troubleshoot, recover, failover, secure, install, and design databases. Investigate potential problems and issues raised by users; troubleshoot challenging performance issues and develop proactive measures. Monitor database events, continuously optimize system performance through tuning. Work with engineering teams to automate reactive procedures and promote rapid response to database issues. Design and develop proactive tools and measures to optimize performance and scale the platform. Maintain database configurations in compliance with established best practices. Design and implement systems, policies, and procedures for backup and disaster recovery. Monitor ongoing capacity and implement design and architecture changes to improve global availability. Install upgrades and patches to existing database servers. Design and develop database code as needed. Review and establish database migration processes. Participate in oncall rotations as part of a followthesun team. Qualifications 5+ years of Database Administration experience supporting mission critical relational databases. Extensive experience with MSSQL 2019 or above and best practices in DB infrastructure. Proficiency with OLTP database environments. Proficiency with TSQL, PowerShell (Python is a plus). Experience with distributed systems, OLTP/DW MPP a big plus. Programming experience with C#/.NET a big plus. Experience configuring and administering MSSQL replication, Availability Groups, and Distributed Availability Groups. AWS Database Management, OLAP, and PostgreSQL experience are pluses. Full systems lifecycle experience of database projects. Experience designing, building, installing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining highvolume, large database systems. Topnotch troubleshooting and analytical problemsolving skills. Experience with compliance programs such as SarbanesOxley (SOX) or PCI is a big plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document complex technical problems. Ability to work effectively in a team across different time zones and independently with limited supervision.
