Position SummaryThe Apellis MSL (Medical Science Liaison) is a remote role based in NSW, focused on developing and maintaining peer-to-peer scientific relationships with key medical experts in NSW and QLD. This role primarily supports the Apellis ophthalmology program and is embedded in the Medical Affairs department. The MSL will collaborate with ophthalmologists and other eye care professionals to support the medical strategy and ensure dissemination and discussion of up-to-date medical information based on scientific exchange.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with key medical experts in the ophthalmology communitySupport medical affairs (e.g. scientific exchange, conference support) and clinical development initiatives (e.g. site identification, trial recruitment)Collaborate with physicians on medical affairs initiatives including publications, advisory boards, medical education opportunities, trainingServe as scientific peer-to-peer resource to external disease experts and internal stakeholdersSupport the medical community with up-to-date medical information, robust disease expertise, and product informationCommunicate clinical insights on new data to Apellis Medical Affairs and to inform medical strategy for the therapeutic areaTrain internal stakeholders on key scientific and medical topics in relevant therapeutic areaDevelop an understanding of the regional landscape including specialties involved in care of patientsMaintain effective and appropriate communication among internal stakeholders while maintaining full compliance with relevant requirementsGenerate tactical regional plans to provide needs based, value-added support of the medical and scientific community in-line with company goalsUses systems to strategically map, identify, profile and prioritize thought leaders in line with the medical plan and goalsMaintain accurate reporting and documentation of MSL activitiesCollaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders (e.g. Commercial, Market Access)Education, Registration & CertificationTertiary qualification in health or medical science degree (MD, PhD, BPharm, BOptom, Borth, BSc); postgraduate studies highly desirable i.e. Master''s or PhDExperienceAt least 1-3 years of experience in Medical Affairs or Medical Science with a high level of scientific and business acumenComprehensive understanding of, and the ability to continue to learn and disseminate information about the responsible disease area(s)Prior ophthalmology experience with knowledge of market dynamics in Australia (and New Zealand) and established relationships with eye care professionals advantageous and highly preferredUnderstanding of compliance considerations and ability to work compliantly in a field-based role, within the medical organization, as well as across the commercial organizationThorough and current knowledge of the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct SkillsSkills, Knowledge & AbilitiesExcellent oral and written communication skillsEnergetically embraces responsibilities, demonstrates ability to achieve goalsHas strong initiative, and functions well as part of a cross-functional teamExhibits excellent time management and planningAbility to work independently and manage time effectively while travelingProactive mindset with the ability to shape internal processes and contribute beyond the core job scope when opportunities ariseMust be pro-active team player, flexible, and able to work in a dynamic environmentTravel RequirementsThis role requires regular travel within NSW and Queensland to engage with healthcare professionals and key stakeholdersOccasional travel to national and international congresses and meetings may be requiredMust hold a valid driver''s license and have access to reliable transport for regional travelBenefits And PerksApellis offers a comprehensive benefits package, inclusive family building benefits, flexible time off, summer and winter shutdowns, paid family leave, and more!Company BackgroundApellis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a global biopharmaceutical company that combines courageous science and compassion to develop life-changing therapies for some of the most challenging diseases patients face.
