Who we are Office of the Supervising Scientist (OSS) is a specialist scientific area within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (Commonwealth). We are responsible for protecting the people and environment of the Alligator Rivers Region, including Kakadu National Park, from the effects of uranium mining. We conduct environmental research and monitoring around operating and rehabilitated uranium mining sites, participate in and oversee the regulatory process and develop standards and practices for environmental protection. The Jabiru Operations consist of the Jabiru Field Station team, a dynamic team of technical officers undertaking OSS research and monitoring programs and the Jabiru Remediation Team, a small agile team that works extensively with internal and external stakeholders to implement the Commonwealths commitment to the remediation of the Jabiru township post mining. The key duties of the position include: Assisting with the planning and delivery of remediation projects, including progress monitoring and milestone reporting. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including the preparation of high-quality written correspondence. Assisting with a range of administrative tasks as necessary to support the work of the team, including procurements and contract management processes. Arranging and minuting meetings, responding to information requests, and maintaining stakeholder connection. Assisting with risk assessment and risk management activities for projects. What we are looking for Demonstrated experience in supporting programs and/or projects. Project management skills including planning and procurement. Experience in analysing information and program data to derive conclusions and solutions based on evidence. Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. High level of competency in MS Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and diary/calendar management. Ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders, using exceptional interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders and senior leaders. Strategic and open-minded thinking, evaluating complex information from a variety of sources, to make connections and sound decisions while exercising good judgment. Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing. Skills in project management applications (i.e. MS Teams, MS Project) will be well regarded but are not essential.
