Department of Education Victoria Mildura VIC Mildura English Language Centre (MELC) is a campus of Mildura Senior College, located in the heart of Mildura, northwest Victoria. MELC provides a fulltime intensive English language program for newly arrived migrant and refugee students from Prep to Year 10. MELCs aim is to prepare students for the English demands of mainstream schooling or other alternative pathways. MELC provides an introduction to the English language as well as learning in and through English. MELC also provides students and their families with an understanding of the Victorian schooling system and life in Australia. Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated excellence in literacy teaching, with the knowledge and skills to improve learning outcomes for students with EAL needs. SC2 Demonstrated experience in working with or understanding the needs of EAL/refugeelike students and their families. SC3 Demonstrated skills in building the EAL/literacy instructional capacity of teachers and school leaders through coaching, modelling and facilitating schoolbased professional learning. SC4 Demonstrated capacity to effectively analyse and use data to improve EAL student learning outcomes. SC5 Demonstrated understanding of current Department policies, programmes and resources. SC6 Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the flexibility to adapt to and manage change. Classroom Teacher Range 2 The primary focus of range 2 classroom teachers is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. They engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills and to effectively engage students. As teachers gain experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students. Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers in the school to engage in critical reflection of their practice. Provide expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning. Supervise and train one or more student teachers. Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches that enable targets related to improving student learning outcomes to be achieved. Classroom Teacher Range 1 Range 1 classroom teachers focus on further developing skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners with support from higherlevel teachers. They plan, prepare and teach to achieve specific student outcomes. Operate under general direction within clear guidelines and established work practices. Supervise and train one or more student teachers. Teach their own classes and participate in policy development, project teams and cocurricula activities. Plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects, participate in induction programs and professional learning activities. EAL Cluster Teacher The EAL Cluster teacher provides support and builds capacity of leadership and teaching staff within nominated cluster schools for students from an EAL background who have been in the Australian school system for up to five years. Work with the MELC Assistant Principal and school leadership to map EAL/D provision and determine areas of need. Ensure appropriate EAL assessment and reporting procedures are in place. Support teachers to develop curriculum and programs that meet language and learning needs of EAL students. Provide direct EAL teaching and modelled strategies. Recommend relevant resources and arrange provision of New Arrivals Kit where appropriate. Direct students to support services within and outside the school. Develop mainstream teachers capacity through professional learning and mentoring. Conduct EAL Initial English Language Assessments and make recommendations. Provide information about DET EAL resources such as translating and interpreting services. Teach at MELC as required. Eligibility Teaching qualifications recognised by DET. VIT registration. Current drivers licence and a car with comprehensive insurance. TESOL qualification desirable. Must meet all other employment requirements of DET. Qualification Requirements for Teacher Class Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Postgraduate level initial teaching programme completed on or after 1 January 2024, accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority. If graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education programme after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE). #J-18808-Ljbffr
