Job Description

St Leonards, NSW Lead a high-performing payroll function across multiple entities. We are seeking an experienced and people-focused Payroll Manager to oversee our end-to-end payroll operations across multiple Australian entities. This newly created leadership role will manage our payroll team (including a Payroll Officer / Coordinator), drive operational excellence, and ensure full compliance with legislation, EBAs, and internal controls. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop the payroll team, providing coaching, support, and performance oversight. Drive a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Manage workflow allocation across weekly and monthly payroll cycles. End-to-End Payroll Oversight Oversee the accurate and timely processing of complex payrolls across multiple companies. Ensure all payroll activities adhere to EBAs, industrial awards, and legislative requirements. Review and authorise payroll transactions, reconciliations, and adjustments. Systems, Analytics & Controls Oversee the use of UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) and Payroll Metrics, ensuring optimal accuracy and utilisation. Maintain strong internal controls, audit trails, and governance around payroll data. Lead system improvements, integrations, and reporting optimisation. Compliance, Reporting & Governance Ensure compliance with PAYG, Superannuation, STP, payroll tax, and other statutory obligations. Coordinate and support internal and external audits. Produce high-quality payroll reporting for senior leadership. Stakeholder Engagement Build trusted relationships with Finance, HR, and operational leaders. Provide expert guidance on payroll matters, EBA interpretation, entitlements, and legislation. Resolve escalated payroll queries with professionalism and clarity. About You You will excel in this role if you have : 5+ years of payroll experience with at least 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role Strong multi-entity, high-volume payroll experience Proficiency in UKG and Payroll Metrics Advanced knowledge of EBAs, award interpretation & Australian payroll compliance Excellent reconciliation, reporting, and analytical capabilities Proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop payroll staff High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels Whats in It for You?
