Aged Care Social Visitor - Chess Player for social visits to an older person (Umina Beach) Volunteering Central Coast Umina Beach NSW Social connections are essential to everyone''s wellbeing, and that includes older people in our community. Being able to share a common interest or passion with a friendly visitor can be the highlight of someone''s week. The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a government funded program for older people living in residential aged care (nursing homes) and is co-ordinated on the NSW Central Coast by Volunteering Central Coast. If you live near, or can easily travel to Umina Beach, and enjoy playing chess, there''s a lonely older gentleman who would greatly appreciate your regular visits. Not only will your regular games together keep his chess skills up and his mind active, you''ll get to know one another and provide companionship and an opportunity for him to feel connected to the community once again. ACVVS Volunteer Visitors are empathetic, compassionate and kind-hearted people wanting to make a difference to the lives of an older person living in their local area. If you''re patient, a great listener, and have some time to give, we welcome your enquiry. Visits are purely for social reasons (no running errands, no personal care duties) and take place on a regular ongoing basis for an hour a week or fortnight. Visits are spent doing activities you both enjoy - a trip down memory lane looking at old photos, listening to music, going for a walk in the garden, sharing a hobby, playing a card game or doing a puzzle together. Volunteer Visitors require patience and reliability...and above all, a heart for older people. You will be supported in your role by an ACVVS Coordinator. Volunteers undergo a police check and complete a short online training program before commencing their volunteering role. Requirements Age 18 years or older. Commitment of at least 12 months. Reliable and patient with a heart for older people. Must be able to conduct visits for an hour a week or fortnight. Will undergo a police check and complete online training. Commitment & Support Regular visits, more than 6 months. Flexible hours between 9am and 4pm. Regular visits for an hour fortnightly. Online induction training. In-person orientation. Ongoing support. Register your interest now and an ACVVS Coordinator will get in touch to arrange an interview at a mutually convenient time. #J-18808-Ljbffr
