Teaching and Learning Beechworth Primary School addresses the learning needs of every child. Our curriculum programme runs on a repeating twoyear cycle and covers all aspects of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, emphasising literacy and numeracy. Our inquirybased units are designed around eight concepts Community, Sustainability, Social Justice, Creativity, Identity, Change, Necessity and Curiosity explored developmentally from Foundation through to Year 6. All students explore the same concept at the same time, facilitating wholeschool immersion and crosslevel collaboration. We determine each childs specific learning requirements, enabling a highly successful literacy and numeracy program. Preassessment and collaborative planning with enablers and extenders allow students to work at their point of need, constantly identifying gaps and refining instruction. Teachers are dedicated to specialist programmes in The Arts, Physical Education, STEM and LOTE (French). An excellent sports programme offers regional and statelevel competition opportunities. Selection Criteria Graduates SC1: Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the capacity to incorporate teaching of literacy and numeracy skills, and response to student learning needs. SC2: Demonstrated capacity to implement highimpact teaching strategies guided by student learning and evaluate the impact on student growth. SC3: Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning using data to inform practice and provide feedback to students and parents. SC4: Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community. SC5: Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning. Role Graduates The primary focus of a Range1 classroom teacher is to further develop skills and competencies to become an effective practitioner, supported by teachers at higher levels. Teachers plan, prepare and deliver programmes to achieve specific student outcomes, working under general direction within clear guidelines. They may supervise and train student teachers, participate in policy and program development, and contribute to cocurricular activities. Responsibilities Graduates Planning and implementing teaching programmes or courses of study. Teaching an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level. Monitoring, evaluating and reporting student progress in key learning areas. Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes. Maintaining records of class attendance and student progress. Implementing effective student management consistent with the school charter. Working with a mentor to plan, implement and reflect on professional development, developing a professional portfolio. Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Supervising a range of student activities, including support and welfare programmes. Contributing to a range of cocurricular programmes. Who May Apply Graduates Have completed their course requirements and graduated in the last four years. Not be employed as a teacher by the department at the start of the advertised position. Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Completion of an Australian postgraduatelevel initial teaching programme or course of study on or after 1January2024, with accredited initial teacher education by an Australian State or Territory authority. Graduation from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme after 1July2016 with successful completion of the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE).
