This is a pivotal role reporting directly to the Executive Director, responsible for driving project commercial and controls maturity across the organisation and ensuring alignment with our corporate objectives. We are looking for a forward-thinking professional who thrives in dynamic environments and brings strong judgement to complex decisions. Your leadership will shape how infrastructure is restored across the Lismore LGAimproving resilience, strengthening transparency, and supporting the communities rebuild.ResponsibilitiesManage a team of technical experts to ensure the successful delivery and governance of significant infrastructure projects within the portfolio, proactively ensuring their sustainability during the significant investment in the restoration of Lismore and the local government area.Work with leaders to develop and implement commercial and project control initiatives, ensuring alignment across work streams with Council, portfolio goals, and stakeholder needs in mind.Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication and project management strategies and adjust approaches as needed to maximise impact.Provide guidance and support to leaders and employees on best practices.Facilitate feedback mechanisms to gauge stakeholder sentiment and address concerns proactively.Identify, understand, monitor and assess the key interface and integration issues associated with major projects, various programs, and initiatives.Use decision-support frameworks and tools to ensure the best portfolio outcomes are achieved by balancing customer needs, program/projects and operations.Use data and reporting to proactively understand key threshold levels of critical resources, prioritise and maximise programmes.Provide specialist expertise and professional advice to the Executive Director on all relevant aspects of the portfolio, preparing comprehensive options papers, information briefs and artefacts to support decision making and ensure the successful transition, integration, and implementation of major projects.Ensure systems and processes are in place that support efficient and effective internal and external customer service delivery.Recruit, mentor and lead team members to focus on customer service and experience excellence.RequirementsPassionate about driving positive brand best practice in project controls and commercial management.Hold relevant tertiary qualifications and have proven success in a similar senior leadership role.Contemporary and dynamic approach, able to influence, build and maintain trust-based, solid stakeholder relationships.Excellent communication skills and the ability to write clearly and edit accurately to publish quality, easily understood information for internal and external audiences; able to communicate complex concepts in plain English to diverse audiences.A demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and work co-operatively with people at all levels to achieve outcomes, including construction environments.Experience managing contracts, external agencies, and suppliers and strong organisational skills are essential for the team''s success.Experience managing and mentoring people.Experience in managing challenging stakeholders and issues management.Good negotiation and liaison skills with an interest or experience in facilitation.Term ContractContracted hours of work: 35 hours a week / 70 hours a fortnight up to 31 December 2027.Closing dateApplications will be accepted until a suitable candidate pool is established.LocationThe position will be primarily at our Flood Portfolio Office in Lismore.
