Senior Full Stack Java Applications Developer Were partnering with a large, purpose-driven organisation within the NSW public sector to engage an experienced Senior Full Stack Java Developer on a contract through to 30 June 2026. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact systems that support essential services used at scale, with a strong focus on modernisation, cloud adoption and best-practice engineering. About the role In this senior, handson position, youll be involved across the full software development lifecycle- from design and development through to testing, implementation and ongoing support. A key focus will be leading and contributing to largescale modernisation initiatives, including upgrading legacy Java applications to modern LTS versions and improving performance, security and maintainability. Key responsibilities Lead the migration of legacy applications from Java 6.x to Java 21 LTS Refactor code for Java EE to Jakarta EE package migration (javax jakarta) Upgrade and modernise core frameworks including: Spring Framework (4.3.x 6.2.x LTS) Hibernate (5.1.x 6.6.x LTS) Apache Camel (2.20.x 4.10.x) Support migration from Elasticsearch to OpenSearch Perform code reviews, performance optimisation and troubleshooting Ensure solutions align with development standards, security requirements and documented business needs Contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement Collaborate within a multidisciplinary Agile team while managing competing priorities About you Youre a senior developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and working on meaningful, long-term platforms. 5+ years experience in fullstack Java development Strong expertise in Java, Spring, Hibernate and AWS Frontend experience with Angular or AngularJS Handson experience modernising legacy systems and largescale upgrades Experience building and integrating RESTful services Knowledge of application servers (Jetty, Tomcat) and integration frameworks Solid experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway, Lambda) Strong SQL and database modelling skills (Oracle, MySQL or SQL Server) Familiarity with OpenSearch / Elasticsearch Exposure to Bitbucket, Bamboo and Postman (desirable) Clear communication skills and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions Apply now with your resume or reach out to Elizabeth on ***************@gwg.com.au.
