The WA Police Union (WAPU) is seeking a Corporate Communications Specialist to help deliver a cohesive communication strategy that strengthens WAPUs brand and public voice. In this pivotal role, you will enhance member engagement, promote high profile industrial campaigns and ensure consistent, compelling messaging across all channels. You will manage a mix of internal and external communications, media relations, digital content, partnerships and key events, creating stories and campaigns that support WAPUs broader advocacy for its members and the community they serve. About Us The WA Police Union of Workers (WAPU) represents the professional and industrial interests of more than 7,000 police officers, police recruits, cadets and police auxiliary officers employed by the WA Police Force. Covering the portfolios of Legal, Industrial Relations, WHS, Welfare, Media, Internal Advocacy, Research, Administration and Member Services, WAPU plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring the wellbeing of its constituents. WAPU is registered with the WA Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) and affiliated with the Police Federation of Australia (PFA). Key Responsibilities Cocreating and delivering WAPUs communications strategy, communication governance and campaign plans. Leading media relations, briefings and press conferences, preparing messaging and statements and monitoring coverage. Managing WAPUs digital presence, including website, print media, member portal and social media, with a focus on timely, engaging updates. Leading communication activity for key campaigns, using media and digital channels to raise public and member awareness. Developing internal and member communications such as magazine content, newsletters, alerts and presentations, including basic photo and video editing. Enhancing and protecting WAPUs brand, ensuring messaging aligns with its values and adheres to style and brand guidelines. Assisting with corporate partnerships and events, including promotion, content capture and followup communications. Building relationships with members, WA Police Force stakeholders, media and partners to support WAPUs advocacy work. Tracking and reporting on communication performance, providing insights and recommendations to the CEO. About You Hold a tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field. Minimum 5 years experience in corporate communications, public relations or similar, ideally in a union, notforprofit or advocacy environment. Strong media relations capability, including experience with issues management or crisis communication. Proven experience planning and executing communication and social media campaigns, including EDMs and website updates. Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling content. Confident using digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, web CMS, analytics and social media management platforms. Highly organised, able to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. Collaborative, proactive and professional, with the ability to build trust with members, leaders and external stakeholders. Photography and videography skills. Knowledge of industrial relations, public policy or law enforcement issues will be well regarded.
