Role Overview Gympie Regional Council is seeking a full-time permanent Senior Officer Environmental Health (EHO) to deliver professional environmental health services that protect and enhance public health, community amenity, safety, and environmental standards. The role involves monitoring and enforcing statutory requirements, conducting inspections, investigations, and proactive community initiatives. Responsibilities Manage the application process for licences, registrations and permits including approvals, renewals and transfers within statutory timeframes. Inspect, audit, regulate and enforce activities that are licensed, registered or approved by Council. Investigate complaints and service requests, identify and implement appropriate enforcement action. Resolve disputes and appeals related to environmental health functions of Council. Conduct factual investigations, gather evidence, liaise with Councils legal representatives, obtain and execute warrants, and provide evidence in court as required. Participate in proactive public health initiatives such as vector surveillance programs and fieldbased inspection programs. Collect samples from Councils reticulated water supply systems and other environmental samples (surface water, bore water, asbestoscontaining material) in accordance with policies and regulations. Review development applications, provide environmental and public health advice, and recommend conditions of approval. Analyse technical and scientific reports (e.g., acoustic, contaminated land) and provide expert advice when required. Update Councils databases and registers, including the Customer Request Management system and Magiq Docs. Contribute to the development of budgets, policies, procedures and reports for the Branch. Increase community awareness of environmental health issues through promotional and educational activities. Participate in an oncall roster to respond to issues outside normal business hours, including weekends and public holidays. Perform any other duties within the scope of the role. Essential Knowledge & Skills Tertiary qualification in Applied Science Environmental Health, Health Science or equivalent. Current professional membership or eligibility with Environmental Health Australia (Queensland Division). Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary best practice in environmental and public health, including relevant laws and regulations. Ability to provide technical and legislative advice. Proficiency in conducting investigations and gathering evidence. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage, consult, and manage conflict at all levels. Effective timemanagement skills to meet legislative timeframes. Analytical and problemsolving skills. Competence in interpreting and analysing output from specialised monitoring equipment. Teamwork skills and the ability to build productive working relationships. Willingness to work out of hours, including weekends, on a rostered oncall basis.
