Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development NSW Mudgee NSWBe part of the department that works to protect, support and develop NSW primary industries, mining sector and regional communities.Permanent ongoing opportunityLocated within the Central Tableland LLS region (Mudgee, Lithgow, Bathurst, Orange, Cowra or Molong)Salary ranges from $113,574.00 - $125,720.00 pa + super & leave loadingCentral Tablelands Local Land Services is looking for a Biosecurity Project and Programs Officer to assist the Invasive Species team with project management and the delivery of onground programs and advisory services for the management of animal biosecurity for the region and for surveillance and investigation activities as they relate to pest animal management.The successful candidate will have excellent project management and communication/negotiation skills and will report to the Team Leader Invasive Species.About the RoleMain responsibilities:Lead the Central Tablelands LLS Pest Levy project and/or additional external targeted funding projects, being responsible for project management, contract development and budget oversight including phasing and project reportingPrepare and deliver the annual Pest Levy Service Delivery Plan and other Plans as required in collaboration with the Invasive Species teamOral and written reporting to the Leadership team as requiredManage communications with the Invasives Species team for internal and external newsletters and provide media input where neededAssist in the management and organisation of mandatory training for the Invasive Species teamCollaborate with internal teams to coordinate and deliver relevant programsAssist in responding to ad hoc enquiries and attendance at emergency management activitiesEnsure CTLLS remains compliant in its legislated responsibilities including the use of restricted chemical products and agricultural chemicalsPrioritise timely and accurate reporting, and management of data and documentsAttend community meetings where required and assist with bait preparation and major onground programs as needed (if suitable training is completed)Collaborating with stakeholders to apply legislation and policies across diverse activitiesBalancing complex and fastmoving responsibilities where urgent issues often take priorityAddressing new biosecurity threats amidst evolving industry and community expectationsAbout YouThis is a role for someone who loves project management, working with people and animals, and being out in the field. To be successful youll need to have:A sound knowledge of invasive pest animal management and compliance, as it relates to the relevant legislationAn understanding of biosecurity issues, particularly as they relate to pest animal management.The ability to act as a reference point and guide for the team in making decisions in challenging scenarios, managing industry and community expectations whilst operating in fast paced, technical environmentA Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or the ability and willingness to successfully complete itAppropriate qualifications (minimum AQF3 level) and knowledge relevant to pesticide application, or the ability and willingness to obtain itThe ability to be appointed as an Authorised Officer under the Local Land Services Act 2013 and the Public Spaces (unattended property) Act 2021, and the demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply legislation and regulations.The ability to be appointed as an Authorised Officer under the Biosecurity Act and the demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply legislation and regulations, preferably related to biosecurity matters.Current NSW Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel (including overnight stays) as requiredAbility and willingness to undertake a Police check and medical clearanceFor more information read the full Role Description: Biosecurity Projects and Programs OfficerWho We AreThe Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is the department dedicated to growing primary industries and supporting regional economic development to deliver longterm benefits to the state.
