About the roleThe Registered Nurse working in a Dialysis Unit must possess strong clinical and technical skills, including a thorough understanding of renal physiology, dialysis procedures (haemodialysis and peritoneal), and vascular access care such as managing AV fistulas and central lines.They must be proficient in monitoring patients before, during, and after treatment, recognising complications like hypotension or infection and responding effectively in emergencies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for educating patients and families, providing emotional support and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Time management, attention to detail, and adherence to strict infection control protocols are critical in a fastpaced environment.A commitment to ethical practice, accurate documentation, and ongoing professional development is vital, along with certifications such as BLS, ACLS, and potentially, a Graduate certificate in Renal nursing or work towards it.Additionally, a commitment to learn the skills if you have no previous experience in dialysis. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the role is the favourable shift times, which support a healthy worklife balance.The position also allows for greater autonomy in clinical practice, while still being well supported by our approachable and experienced Nephrologists. Our Nurses play a vital role not only in providing direct care to patients but also in offering support to other facilities within the Northern / Central Sector, promoting continuity of care and ensuring consistent, highquality renal services across the region.Team and CultureWe have a very friendly and supportive team, including four Nephrologists, one Renal Advanced Trainee, and 15 dedicated Nurses, along with Allied Health Professionals.
