Job Description

The Role:The successful candidate will perform the functions of consultant psychiatrist within the Northern Community Forensic Mental Health Service.You will need:Extensive experience and skills in adult general psychiatry in a range of practice settings.Training and/or experience in forensic (particularly correctional or criminal) psychiatry.Demonstrated high level of verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated experience and skill in liaison, particularly with GP''s.Experience in the area of clinical leadership and demonstrated ability to deal effectively with interpersonal issues.Demonstrated ability to convey psychiatric knowledge effectively to fellow staff, service providers and patients.Note: - Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all the selection criteria of this position to address in your application.Details of appointment:fixed term full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing April 2026 until 03 November 2028*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicantApplicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.Position Features:Some Interstate and Intrastate travel may be requiredThis position involves regular oncall work which is divided equally between the medical workforce including the Statewide Specialty DirectorStaff employed against this Statement of Duties as a Visiting Medical Practitioner will be employed in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement and remunerated accordinglyPlease note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 -$301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) AwardSalary range is in accordance with Salaried Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:Provision of a motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum, pro rataContinuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rataRelocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointeesAllowance in lieu of participating in private practice scheme 35% of base salary (if applicable)Other allowances as applicableMore information about our Employee Benefits can be found hereEligibility:Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria asSpecialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment.
