ABOUT THE JOB: This role is vital for the community, ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of Council''s environmental health functions in line with all relevant Acts and Regulations. You''ll be instrumental in delivering the Council''s Environmental Health Program and providing a high-standard service consistent with Council and community expectations. This includes coordinating and participating in the prompt and accurate investigation of complaints related to environmental health matters. The position is responsible for a number of operational programs and regulatory duties, including, but not limited to: Food Safety and Public Health Regulation: Regulation of food businesses (fixed premises, temporary food stalls, and mobile food vehicles). Inspection of public swimming pools and spas, including the Swimming Pool Safety Barrier Program. Monitoring of public health premises such as hairdressers, beauty salons, and skin penetration operators. Regulation of cooling water and warm water systems. Environmental Protection and Compliance: Investigation of environmental nuisance and pollution issues (e.g., noise, odour, dust, smoke, litter, illegal dumping and burning). Monitoring of underground petroleum storage systems (UPSS). Regulation of on-site wastewater management systems (On-site Sewage Management). Regulation of events and activities on Council land, including assessment of applications and approvals. Planning and Enforcement: Environmental health assessment of development applications, technical reports, and impact statements. Applying and enforcing provisions of relevant legislation, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Food Act 2003, Public Health Act 2010, and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. Knowledge and experience in applying the Food Act 2003, Public Health Act 2010, Local Government Act 1993, Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Impounding Act 1993 and other relevant legislation. Demonstrated experience in investigations and enforcement, including inspections, gathering evidence, preparing briefs and statements, issuing compliance actions, and managing conflict resolution across public health, environmental protection, and food safety. Ability to interpret, apply, and develop policies, procedures, and regulatory instruments, exercising sound judgement and initiative across compliance areas including animal control, environmental protection, public health, and development control. Skills and Attributes Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, adapt to changing situations, and learn new skills. Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, manage time, plan, organise, and prioritise workloads (both individual and team) to achieve defined outcomes. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity. Strong written, verbal, and numeracy skills, with the ability to prepare accurate reports and communicate effectively with people at all levels on compliance matters.
