Job Description We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced 8T Forklift Operator to join our steel fabrication facility in Corio. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe loading and unloading of steel components, including long and oversized materials up to 18 metres in length. This role is critical to supporting production and dispatch teams to ensure efficient material movement within our workshop and yard. The ideal candidate will have proven experience operating large forklifts in a steel or heavy industrial environment, with excellent spatial awareness and the ability to manoeuvre large loads with precision. A strong understanding of workplace safety practices and communication skills are essential for this role. Key Responsibilities Operate 8tonne forklifts safely and efficiently to move heavy steel components Load and unload trucks with materials up to 18 metres in length Liaise with production and dispatch teams to meet daily scheduling and delivery requirements Conduct prestart checks and ensure machinery is maintained to safety standards Assist with general yard duties and other logistics tasks as required Qualifications Current forklift (LF) licence with demonstrated 8T experience Minimum 2 years of experience operating large forklifts in a steel, logistics, or industrial environment Ability to interpret load plans and basic workshop documentation Strong understanding of load security, spatial movement, and safe operation practices Excellent communication and basic numeracy skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Additional Information Permanent fulltime stable employment Competitive hourly rates, plus super, plus overtime Position is for day shift, 6:30am through to 3:00pm Every Friday is a short day, knock off at 12:30pm Immediate start Other benefits Striving for Zero Harm safetybased culture Clean work environment We supply you with all required PPE We supply you with all tools you need We supply you with 5 sets of work clothes including laundry service Thornton Engineering is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity at our company.
