The Division supports whole of Commission responses to risk issues through regulatory policy responses and campaigns, and facilitates sector performance through sharing information with providers and consumersThe Data, Analytics and Intelligence (DAI) Group manages and analyses data from the aged care sector and regulatory activities to understand risks and performance for the purposes of prioritising and informing preventative and responsive risk treatments and regulatory decision making.DAIs role is to identify risks and guide decisions that inform preventative and responsive risk treatments. DAI supports service delivery through authoritative data and intelligence practice that is contemporary and compliant with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and aligned with the strategic imperatives of the Commission.About the RoleThe Data Engineer contributes to the design, development, and delivery of robust data pipelines, models, and processes that support the Commissions mission of providing accurate, timely, and trusted insights.This role is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimising modern cloud-based data assets that enable effective decisionmaking, strengthen risk management, and improve the quality of care for older Australians. The Data Engineer ensures engineering solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and welldocumented, while aligning with best practice in data architecture, governance, and transformation.The position works collaboratively with senior data engineers, analysts, and business teams to deliver highquality data products, support innovation, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Commissions data capability.Position DutiesDevelop, maintain, and optimise data pipelines and workflows in Snowflake and related cloud platforms.Build, test, and maintain dbt models and transformations aligned with Medallion architecture principles (Bronze, Silver, Gold).Apply data modelling techniques to structure, optimise, and ensure accessibility of data assets.Implement dbt tests and quality frameworks to maintain accuracy, integrity, and reliability of data.Contribute to data governance activities, including tagging, masking, and compliance with security policies.Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows for dbt projects using Azure DevOps or similar tools.Prepare and maintain dbt documentation, including lineage and model descriptions, to improve transparency and governance.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure reliable and trusted data products.Produce and maintain clear technical documentation to support data engineering practices and business use.Collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders to deliver businessaligned data solutions.Contribute to the adoption of emerging tools, automation practices, and engineering process improvements.Position Eligibility Requirements (Selection Criteria)To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:Strong experience in data engineering within cloud environments (Snowflake, Azure, or similar).Strong skills across:Snowflake cloud data warehousing, performance optimisation, security.dbt modelling, testing, documentation, and orchestration.SQL advanced queries, transformations, performance tuning.Python scripting, automation, and data wrangling.Azure (or similar) CI/CD pipelines, scheduling, and orchestration.Experience with databases (SQL Server, Oracle) and understanding of relational data modelling.Solid understanding of data architecture, ELT/ETL pipelines, and Medallion framework.Practical experience with data quality frameworks, metadata management, and governance controls.Ability to work in agile, fastpaced environments delivering iterative improvements.Strong problemsolving and analytical skills with high attention to detail.Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn and adopt new tools, technologies, and best practices.Position NotesSalary offered will be between $96,503 - $108,869 per annum depending on skills and experience.
