About the RoleAs a Family Preservation and Reunification (FPR) Practitioner, you will be providing support to children and families where the children are either at risk of entering care systems, or where safe and rapid reunification is appropriate. Your caseload will be low, allowing you to provide intensive support to the children and families under your care. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact client outcomes by working with each family at least twice per week and placing children and families at the centre of your practice. This program is funded to provide an intensive intervention phase of up to 200 hours per family, followed by a step-down support phase of up to 40 hours. Key responsibilities include: Address individual issues and stressors of each family, created by various factors including substance abuse, family violence, mental illness and disability. Increase engagement with families to promote safety, stability and child development. Contribute as a member of a care team or professional network to support case planning and ongoing risk assessment and work collaboratively with other services and in particular Child Protection. Work intensively with children and families, delivering effective interventions that increase parenting capacity, improve family functioning, achieve child safety, and enhance conditions for child development with the aim of achieving better outcomes for children. Identify gaps in services available to clients and advocate on their behalf. Maintain accurate and comprehensive data and records, documenting practice approaches and interventions, including records required to be maintained under legislation or funding agreements. Minimum two years experience in family services, youth work, early childhood services, or related field including expertise in working with infants, children and young people at risk. Critical to your success in this role will also be: Solid understanding of the principles and challenges of supporting vulnerable families and knowledge of Child Protection issues in relation to children at risk. Significant experience in working with and providing active and assertive engagement in casework with children, young people and families, particularly those with complex needs. Proven flexibility, adaptability and able to respond and adjust easily to change in work demands, including the ability to work flexible work hours. Demonstrated experience of and competence in providing a range of interventions to vulnerable families and children driven by the needs of the individual families and children. Willingness to obtain a valid Working with Children Check and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencing employment with us. If you have spent over 12 months overseas in the last 10 years, you will also be required to undergo an International Police Check or present evidence of a satisfactory check.
