The role delivers highlevel engineering technical services in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of drainage infrastructure for the Works Team and the Infrastructure Services Directorate. The Engineer also coordinates technical support for Floodplain Management, operates the Councils Flood Warning Network, runs Floodplain Management Committees and provides flood advice to the Sustainable Environment and Economy Directorate.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport Utilities staff in preparation and operation of urban drainage maintenance programmes, including annual drainage system performance report and support Works operations staff in rural drainage maintenance programmes.Prepare and operate urban and rural drainage capital renewal programmes, including business cases, estimated project costs and expenditure under the Councils Stormwater Levy budget.Preparation of effective and comprehensive flood studies, floodplain management studies and floodplain management plans in accordance with the NSW Floodplain Development Manual.Coordinate operation and maintenance of Councils Flood Warning Network and Disaster Dashboard, supporting Local Emergency Management Officer and SES prior to, during and post disaster operations.Develop and undertake flood awareness and community education in relation to floodplain management.Prepare specifications, tenders, requests for quotes and contract documents, analyse tenders and report recommendations where required.Ensure all relevant legislation is complied with, public risk is minimised and due diligence is exercised using a riskmanagement approach to deliver drainage maintenance activities and develop programs of work for capital projects.Employee BenefitsPermanent, fulltime position (35 hours per week)Salary and conditions in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award, with a starting salary range of $1,880.88 to $2,320.94 per 35hour week (dependent on skills and experience) + 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance if eligibleAnnual salary reviews and identified salary increases for FY 2025/2026 based on award conditions12% Superannuation GuaranteeAccess to Long Service Leave from 5 years'' serviceEducation and training supportFlexible working arrangements (negotiable postonboarding)Attractive salary packaging schemeEmployee Assistance Program (4 sessions per year)Fitness Passport, Health and Wellbeing days, Private Car LeaseOpportunity to work with an experienced and committed teamLocationThis position is based at Mullumbimby; Council may require you to work from other sites as required for operational reasons.ContactSamuel Frumpui Manager WorksPhone: (0475) 262 573 mobileNote: The contact person will be unavailable from the close of business 24 December 2025 until 5 January 2026.Closing DateApplications will close at 10:00pm (NSW time) Sunday, 18 January 2026.
