An extended opportunity exists for this temporary role to lead policy, governance and reporting for student engagement portfolio. This is a temporary full-time position until 31 October 2026, unless otherwise determined. About The Role The Engagement team of Student Support Branch delivers a range of policy, programs and statewide initiatives to address student disengagement and support student connection and belonging. This position, currently available until end October, is a dynamic, fast-paced and diverse role which leads policy advice, cabinet and budget submissions, data analysis, reporting systems, and workflows to maximise outcomes across the team. It also oversees the negotiation and management of multiple interagency memorandums of understanding, and project management of key projects. It works closely with other Directors, Engagement across youth justice, statewide engagement initiatives and regional engagement services to deliver a cohesive agenda and team culture. The ideal candidate will have a broad policy and implementation skill base, strong team leadership abilities, extensive data, reporting and evaluation experience, and a track record in building a cohesive, productive team culture. Responsibilities Analyse emerging educational, economic and social trends to inform the strategic direction, policy development and long-term planning for early childhood, school and tertiary education in Queensland. Provide expert, independent strategic policy advice to the Minister, Director-General and senior executives, including preparation of Cabinet submissions, briefs, speeches, strategic initiatives and responses on complex and sensitive education and social policy issues. Lead futures-focused and evidence-based research and legislative analysis to interpret changes in legislation, government priorities and departmental policy, ensuring strategies remain legally sound, responsive and fit for purpose across education sectors. Build and maintain strategic relationships and represent the department in high-level negotiations and national forums, including National Cabinet, Education Ministers Meetings and AESOC, advocating for education reform and student outcomes. Provide leadership and coordination across the department by guiding policy officers, overseeing briefing processes, offering technical direction, and fostering collaboration across agencies and jurisdictions to deliver coherent and high-quality policy outcomes.
