Deputy Program Director Economic Prosperity Sydney or Melbourne Posted: 08.01.2026 Applications Closing: 01.02.2026 You will have a minimum of six years of work experience in industry, consulting, academia, and/or the public sector, ideally with experience in federal or state Budget analysis a strong grasp of one or more of the following: macroeconomics, microeconomics, public finance, tax policy a track record of contributing to high calibre research and analysis in the public domain executive or management experience with accountability for analytical, forecasting or research output excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak confidently with senior stakeholders and the media and develop a public profile strong people and project management skills, and the ability to write and present information well for a broad audience. About the role Reporting to the CEO, Dr Aruna Sathanapally, who leads the Economic Prosperity and Democracy program, this role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to shaping the debate on economic and fiscal policy. You will enjoy a high degree of responsibility as a Deputy Director, working in a small team with only 1-2 direct reports, supporting the CEO in her analysis and advocacy, and authoring Grattan reports, submissions and other publications on topics encompassing drivers of economic growth, budget sustainability, tax policy, responses to economic shocks, technological change, intergenerational equity, migration and the labour market.
