We have the perfect opportunity for you!OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Attendant to join the Guide Dogs team and ensure the wellbeing of dogs in our Breeding Centre and Training Kennels. This role involves providing high-quality care to dogs, maintaining a hygienic kennel environment, and ensuring the physical and emotional welfare of all assigned dogs.Key ResponsibilitiesDog Care and WellbeingManage the general wellbeing of dogs by feeding, watering, toileting, bathing, and grooming them as needed.Monitor and supervise the behaviour of kennelled dogs, applying appropriate handling techniques and preventing noise disturbances.Accurately monitor and record the weight and body condition of dogs, recommending dietary changes to trainers or team leaders when necessary.Veterinary Care SupportAssist with veterinary care by managing and implementing health treatment plans for individual dogs.Maintain accurate health records for all dogs in the kennel, ensuring proper documentation of medical treatments and observations.Transport and LiaisonSafely transport dogs to and from puppy raisers, trainers, clients, Guide Dog Mobility Instructors (GDMI), and Puppy Development Advisors (PDA).Liaise professionally with staff to communicate specific care requirements for individual dogs.Kennel Maintenance and HygieneEnsure the cleanliness and maintenance of all kennel areas, including associated equipment, in line with organisational policies and procedures.Actively cooperate with Guide Dog Trainers and Instructors to meet the unique needs of each dog.Selection CriteriaEssential Skills and AttributesGenuine passion for animal care and the ability to manage the physical and emotional needs of dogs.Strong attention to detail, particularly in monitoring and recording health data.Ability to work collaboratively with trainers, veterinarians, and other team members.Physical RequirementsPhysically fit and capable of performing tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.Communication SkillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.Other RequirementsKnowledge of dog handling techniques and a willingness to learn and implement best practices.Familiarity with kennel hygiene standards and procedures.Commitment to maintaining a secure and safe environment for all animals and staff.Why Join Guide Dogs?As a Kennel Attendant, you will play a crucial role in the development and wellbeing of dogs that make a significant impact on the lives of individuals in need.
