We are seeking an enthusiastic and detailoriented individual to join our team as an Onsite Sewage Management Officer.This fulltime, temporary position (2 years) offers an excellent opportunity for recent university graduates or students nearing completion of their degree. Applications from all suitably qualified and experienced candidates are strongly encouraged.In this role, you will play a vital part in protecting public health and the environment by ensuring the effective operation and regulation of onsite sewage management systems within our community. You will provide efficient and effective services that reduce environmental and public health risks through the administration, implementation, and enforcement of Council''s OnSite Sewage Management Strategy.Key responsibilities will include:Audit inspections of onsite sewage management systems in accordance with Environmental and Health Guidelines.Encouraging stakeholders to comply with relevant standards.Providing assistance and advice on the operation of onsite sewage management systems.Handling applications under section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993, addressing waste treatment device installations or alterations.Investigating complaints related to effluent surcharge, odours, and pollution incidents, taking action to mitigate environmental harm.For a full list of the Key Accountabilities of the role, please refer to the Position Description.About You:To be successful in this role, you bring:Degree qualification in Environment Engineering, Environment Health, Environmental Science or similar discipline, or trade qualifications in plumbing and drainage, or demonstrated experience at an appropriate level to competently carry out the position''s tasks, is essential. Applicants who are close to completing their tertiary studies are also encouraged to apply.Knowledge of the overarching foundations of wastewater treatment and associated environmental health risks will be highly unregarded.A proactive approach, capable of managing multiple responsibilities, and a commitment to upholding high standards of customer service.A passion for protecting public health and the environment, with strong analytical and communication skills.Highly developed written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills including problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution.An ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Demonstrated high level of computer skills.
