General LabourerFull-Time PositionCranbrook, BCAs a general labourer, you will work in various areas of the post, rail, and chipping operations for Kootenay Wood Preservers, a division of Doman Building Materials.Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrict adherence to all health and safety requirements including regular attendance at safety meetingsPerform housekeeping duties in work area to ensure a safe and clean work environmentCutting, measuring, sorting and stacking wood productsManually feed machines in the peeling and chipping process of wood productsInspect and measure wood pieces to mark for cuts and to verify the accuracy of cutsSet equipment controls to meet cutting specificationsInspect wood products for imperfections and remove as requiredCount, sort, and stack finished wood piecesGuide wood pieces against saws and operate automatic feeding devices to guide cutsDispose of trash and waste materials as requiredRequirements of the JobAble to accurately count and identify various lumber productsGood hand eye coordination and ability to maintain concentration and focus for long periodsAbility to work safely around moving machineryAble to lift up to 50 pounds or 23 kilogramsBending, lifting, and reaching during course of shiftMust be able to speak, read, and write EnglishMust be able to wear hand, eye and ear protection as requiredBecause the work can be hazardous, teamwork and alertness by all workers will help to keep conditions safer for everyoneExperience working in wood processing or lumber yard is desirableMust have own steel-toed bootsWorking Conditions at the Job SiteMust be able to tolerate working in outdoor conditions year roundWork site will be hot in the summer and can be extremely cold during the winterWorkers will need strength and stamina to stand, bend and lift on a daily basisWork site can often be noisy and dustyMay work around machinery with blades or other hazardsEducationHigh school graduation or equivalentEmployment Status and Hours of WorkFull-Time10 hour shifts, Monday through Thursday 6am-4:30pm$23/hrMust be flexible to accommodate operational and scheduling requirementsOccasional overtime and/or weekend work may be requiredWork LocationLumberton, BC, is located southwest of Cranbrook (approximately 10 to 15-minute drive from Cranbrook)Candidates will need their own transportation to travel to and from the work site.This posting reflects an existing vacancy within our organization.Applicantsmust belegally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.Doman does not use artificial intelligence (AI) to screen, assess, and select candidates.Doman welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.
