Volunteer: Sustainable Agriculture, Food Systems, and Conservation in the Galapagos IslandsLocation: Galapagos Islands, EcuadorDuration: minimum 4 weeksStart Dates: start dates each month; enquire when applying.Cost: $500 for the 1st week + $350 for each additional week. Fees include food, accommodation, pre-departure and in-country support, orientation, and all project related activities. The island faces challenges such as lack of food security, reliance on imports, invasive species, and lack of seed-saving practices.This internship offers the chance to collaborate with a farm researching autonomous, resilient, chemicalfree, regenerative, and profitable agriculture. The farm also serves as an agroecology school and founder of the first local seed bank for edible species.Potential Activities:Maintain vegetable seedbedsAssist with seed germination and care of seed banksConstruct apparatuses and design new permaculture systemsAssist with garden maintenance: weeding, excavating, composting, pruning, applying natural fertilizersReforest native or endemic plantsConduct personal research or study: water use and conservation; new water capture systems; improvement of soil texture; improvement of soil nutrients; human or natural innovations to control pests such as rats and wild catsSupport farm marketing and social mediaConduct language tutoring exchanges with staff and community members (English, Spanish)Please note: all information above may change.
