Volunteer: Rainforest and Kiwi Protection in New ZealandLocation: Kauri Coast, New ZealandDuration: Minimum 8 weeksCost: $2900 USD for the first two weeks + $330 for each week thereafterFee Includes: all food, accommodation, predeparture and incountry support, orientation and all project related activities.Does Not Include: flights, travel insurance, personal spending, visas and vaccinations.This Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization located in the cloudforest of Tutamoe Peak in Northland, New Zealand. The area is home to the endangered kiwi bird and to the rare giant kauri snail. Local volunteers and staff work together to protect this lush forest and restore it to its natural splendor. The organization operates on sustainable principles and is entirely offgrid, using recycled structures and tools.In partnership with the Department of Conservation, volunteers protect and monitor wildlife in other forests, creating access trails, guarding native species from invasive rats, possums, and stoats, planting native trees, monitoring pest numbers, and building a lasting habitat for the endangered Kiwi and Kokako birds. As an intern, you receive extra training and mentoring that prepares you to lead a small team of volunteers. Over time you will plan activities, prepare for projects, train new volunteers, and oversee safety procedures.You will also learn the basics of establishing and running a similar nonprofit, from the design phase through accounting and marketing strategies.Learn leadership and management skills and lead a team of volunteers.Learn the details on how to setup and manage a notforprofit organization.Participate and complete handson conservation work in different forests, each with its unique characteristics.Have the opportunity to see endangered species in the wild and explore areas closed to the general public.Learn about sustainability and about living offgrid.Have the opportunity to engage in selfdiscovery through immersion in a remote forest setting.Visit some of the attractions of the Kauri Coast, be it a trip to the lakes or a visit to a 2000yearold tree.Keywords: Internship, Conservation, Sustainability, Discovery, Offgrid.Please note: This opportunity is designed to provide contacts and experience to help further your career.
