Working in partnership with First Nations Australians, landholders, communities, industry, conservation groups, and government, regional NRM organisations deliver the essential service of restoring and sustaining Australias biodiversity and productive landscapes. NRM Regions Australia provides national leadership for the work of the NRM sector by advocating for sustainable longterm investment in natural resource management, increasing the capability and capacity of its member organisations, driving innovation, and influencing policy to achieve better outcomes for the environment, climate, sustainable agricultural systems, and regional communities. The Role NRM Regions Australia is seeking a valuesdriven, strategic and collaborative CEO. As the sectors chief advocate, the CEO builds and strengthens relationships and partnerships to drive outcomes that are aligned with the NRM sectors placebased plans and objectives for their local environment, industries, and community. The CEO represents regional NRM organisations on national committees and works closely with the sectors key stakeholders, including governments, First Nations organisations, industry, research organisations, and fellow peak bodies to create change at the national level. The CEO is responsible for the implementation of the 2030 Strategic Plan, securing sustainable funding pathways and enhancing the organisations influence and impact. Internally, the CEO ensures strong governance, organisational performance, risk management, and operational resilience, providing highlevel strategic, policy and operational advice to the Board while overseeing national engagement and delivery. Key Roles and Responsibilities Lead the 2030 Strategy, translating Board direction into national influence, sector outcomes and organisational performance. Drive national recognition of the regional NRM model and its impact. Strengthen advocacy to influence Commonwealth and State policy, programs and investment across environment, climate, biodiversity and sustainable agriculture. Drive action to secure, diversify and consolidate sustainable funding for NRM Regions Australia and the sector. Represent the sector nationally, providing authoritative leadership across committees, forums, research bodies and policy platforms. Strengthen collaboration, capability and innovation across regional NRM organisations. Deepen partnerships with First Nations organisations, championing Indigenous leadership, knowledge and land/sea management. Anticipate and coordinate responses to emerging NRM issues, risks and opportunities. Advise the Board on policy, NRM issues, and strategic direction. Oversee governance, WHS, HR, budgeting, compliance and organisational risk. Lead a small central team and manage contractors to deliver organisational functions and strategic initiatives. Coordinate national initiatives (submissions, briefings, key forums, National Conference) and enhance communications during scaleup. About You You are a valuesdriven leader who builds trust quickly and leads with humility, clarity and purpose. Comfortable operating in complex stakeholder environments, you bring innovation, commercial nous, political savvy and strong advocacy skills, with the confidence to engage across a broad range of stakeholders. You are an experienced executive (CEO or senior manager) who can work effectively with Boards, set clear boundaries and bring calm, peoplecentric leadership. You know how to step back from technical detail, see the bigger picture and guide a small team while enabling a large, decentralised membership to thrive. Resilient, collaborative and strategic, you are energised by national impact, organisational evolution and shaping systems for better outcomes. Above all, you are motivated by purpose and ready to selflessly lead this organisation into its next chapter. Required Skills and Proficiencies Recognised strategic leader able to influence the NRM sector and deliver impact. Strong understanding of purposeled organisations and environmental, social, and economic contexts. Familiarity with environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, land use, and integrated management (or commitment to develop). Skilled in building partnerships across government, industry, research, community, and with First Nations organisations. Strong negotiation capability in complex stakeholder environments. Experience securing funding, negotiating agreements, and enabling innovative investment pathways. Senior management experience leading multidisciplinary teams, with capability in strategy, governance, risk, compliance, and financial oversight. Excellent written and verbal communication; confident public and media representation. Current drivers licence.
