Overview Job Overview: The Principal Riser Engineer is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will solve complex Riser-related problems and work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Riser Engineer may lead functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Riser, with in-depth expertise in Riser and broad knowledge of the Riser discipline within the Engineering function. Responsibilities Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Perform conceptual FEED, studies, and detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on complex and demanding tasks. Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments; prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures. Prioritize and organize own work to meet deadlines and stay within budgets. Clearly communicate information in straightforward engineering activities; follow health and safety policies and procedures. Act as Lead Engineer when required: direct small or medium Mechanical Engineering teams, lead discipline engineering design of the assigned work area, and ensure delivery within schedule and budget in accordance with standards and project procedures. Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project, including scope, deliverables, schedule, and manpower resources, and agree allocations with the Discipline Manager. Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified; maintain progress and productivity with corrective actions as needed. Represent the Discipline in meetings with project teams, customer discipline leads, and relevant authorities; understand project scope, schedules, and inter-discipline requirements and address issues early. Identify scope changes and promptly raise change notifications; provide necessary supporting documentation and estimates; support variation orders. Interface with other departments for input to designs and drawings; coordinate with other engineering disciplines, planning, fabrication, and project management teams. Document substantive communications and forward to the Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager. Assist in estimates for bid proposals, including technical query reviews, execution statements, and manhour estimates. Raise technical queries to obtain missing information and maintain compliance with McDermott procedures, specifications, standards, and requirements. Prepare discipline engineering design basis, philosophies, and technical specifications as required; participate in finalizing deliverables lists and ensuring compliance with specifications and functional integrity. Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and offshore site surveys as required. Provide technical direction and review for instrumentation & controls engineering; prepare and review design reports and procedures; assist other disciplines with design inputs as needed. Assist procurement in sourcing discipline equipment, materials, and services; prepare requisitions, evaluate quotations, and coordinate with procurement to expedite vendor documents. Update weight reports based on vendor information; review vendor and subcontractor submittals for compliance with project specifications; perform design verification through single-discipline and inter-discipline checks (IDC). Provide technical support to fabrication queries, identify defect/rectification requirements; keep the Lead Engineer informed of activities, concerns, and progress. Contribute to progress and productivity forecasting, inputs for progress reports, and performance evaluations of team members as applicable. Check final subcontractor and vendor data manuals for receipt and approval; participate in internal, customer, and third-party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents. Assist Lead Engineer with responses to customers and authorities on reviews and approvals; capture lessons learned in MDRs Lessons Learned system. Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience; guide less experienced engineers on MDR and discipline procedures, standards, calculations, software, requisitions, and technical bid evaluations. Develop awareness of costs related to own work and the discipline; provide engineering support as required; assist in subcontract documents preparation. Keep the Lead Engineer apprised of activities, progress, and concerns; develop basic understanding of MDRs business and customers, and the interactions among engineering, fabrication, and marine functions. Develop advanced skills with productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); participate in riser design reviews and verifications. Build riser analysis models and check models created by others for analysis (e.g., Fatigue, Strength, Installation, Clashing); perform platform design calculations and analysis (e.g., wall thickness, component, configuration design). Participate in riser design reviews and approvals (lead engineer) of in-house and third-party drawings; act as project-based discipline point of contact in communication with the customer when acting as Lead Engineer. Prepare bids and the projects discipline budget and execution plan; identify project staffing requirements; plan, organize, and assign tasks to team members; ensure tasks are completed within budget; plan discipline-level 4/5 detail schedule; alert the project team of deviations; assist in performance evaluations.
