Job Description

Overview The Flannel Project is an Australian charity supporting survivors of veteran suicide. Founded from lived experience, our work focuses on postvention, providing compassionate, practical support to individuals and families navigating life after loss. Through initiatives such as the SOS Flannel Card, Wear a Flan 4 Shan, and the Flannel Flower Memorial Garden, we help survivors stabilise, process grief in healthy ways, and find pathways forward through connection and community. Our purpose is simple: to ensure no survivor has to walk this journey alone, and to help break cycles of trauma through care, understanding, and support. Role Description The Flannel Project is seeking a Volunteer Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to help guide the organisation through its next stage of growth and consolidation. This is a volunteer, Australia-wide, primarily remote role, working closely with the Founder and Board to strengthen governance, sustainability, and impact. While initially unpaid, there is a genuine intention for this role to transition to paid as funding allows, subject to Board approval. The CEO will provide steady, values-led leadership to support the organisations mission, ensure ethical and trauma-informed practice, and help build a sustainable future for postvention support. Key responsibilities Providing strategic leadership aligned with the charitys purpose and values Supporting governance, compliance, and ethical decision-making Working with the Board and Founder on organisational direction and priorities Strengthening operational systems and internal processes Supporting fundraising, partnerships, and long-term sustainability Representing the organisation with care and integrity to stakeholders and partners Skills & Experience Were looking for someone who brings: Experience in senior leadership, executive, or governance roles (paid or volunteer) Understanding of the not-for-profit or charity sector Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills A calm, ethical, and people-centred leadership style Respect for lived experience and trauma-informed practice Experience in mental health, suicide prevention/postvention, veteran services, or community support is welcomed. Why Join The Flannel Project Lead meaningful, life-impacting work Help shape the future of a survivor-founded charity Flexible, remote engagement Work alongside a committed Board and Founder Contribute to lasting change for survivors and families across Australia. #J-18808-Ljbffr
