Overview The Engagement Institute is seeking an experienced leader to join us as Head of Corporate Services/COO. This is an ideal role for someone close to retirement, returning to work, or seeking part-time flexibility who still wants to use their expertise and experience to make a genuine impact. Youll provide high-level leadership across finance (CFO-level), risk, governance and organisational policy and compliance, and ICT oversight, ensuring strong systems and governance that support a values-driven organisation with an exceptional team culture. The Opportunity 20 to 25 hours per week (flexible) Brisbane-based work from home A role designed for an experienced professional who values autonomy, flexibility and purpose Strong culture: collaborative, respectful, small but mighty, and genuinely supportive A chance to apply your strategic thinking without the demand of a full time role What youll be responsible for Finance (with external provider) Provide CFO-level financial leadership while partnering with an external finance provider for day-to-day processing Oversee month-end close, reconciliations and financial operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness and strong controls Lead budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management, providing clear insights and recommendations to the CEO and Leadership Team Review monthly management accounts and Board reporting (including variance analysis) Coordinate audit and year-end reporting with the external provider and auditors Maintain and strengthen financial policies, delegations and procurement controls Risk, Compliance & Policy Leadership Own the risk framework and organisational risk register; report to CEO/Board committees Lead the development and review of governance policies Support development, review and implementation of organisational policies and frameworks Maintain a strong compliance mindset across corporate governance areas ICT Oversight (with external providers) Provide strategic oversight of ICT systems, cybersecurity, access controls and vendors Guide system improvements and ensure reliable digital operations in a remote environment Who were looking for This role will suit someone who is: CFO/COO calibre with extensive senior finance leadership experience and a strong governance mindset A strategic and critical thinker who can see around corners and offer practical solutions Confident working at an executive level, with strong judgement and accountability Collaborative and able to partner well with internal teams, auditors and vendors Comfortable overseeing ICT and policy in partnership with external specialists/providers Able to work in a small team in a hands-on capacity Proven ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment and manage competing deadlines What youll bring Significant senior finance leadership experience (CFO-level capability) Qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or related field (e.g. CPA/CA or equivalent) Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audit and internal controls Experience supporting Boards/Committees with clear, executive-level reporting Governance, risk register management and policy development/review experience Experience with operations and the governance/compliance requirements Experience overseeing ICT environments through external providers/vendors Experience in not-for-profit, membership, charity, or professional association environments About the Engagement Institute The Engagement Institute is Australasias leading voice for the community and stakeholder engagement sector.
