OverviewMake a meaningful difference for Aboriginal mothers, babies and families across the Hunter region. Remuneration: $32.78 - $47.39 per hour + superannuation + salary packaging. Location: Kurri Kurri Community Health Services | Wonnarua Country. Employment Type: Permanent Part Time. Position Classification: Aboriginal Health Worker. Hours Per Week: 16. Applicants must be female under Section 31 (2) (h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.About The RoleWe are seeking a committed and culturally strong Aboriginal Health Worker to join our New Directions Team, working alongside Child & Family Health Nurses to support Aboriginal families in the Hunter Valley and Lower Hunter. This is a role grounded in culture, connection and community.ResponsibilitiesEngage and support Aboriginal mothers, babies and families, providing culturally safe guidance that strengthens identity, connection and wellbeing.Provide cultural context to non-Aboriginal mothers of Aboriginal babies, helping families understand the importance of culture, community and available services.Work closely with Child & Family Health clinicians to ensure culture is embedded within the team''s approach and that families experience seamless, respectful care.Support referrals from New Directions, including young mums who may transition into regular Child & Family Health services.Build strong relationships with the Aboriginal Maternal & Infant Health Service (AMIHS) and other local Aboriginal community organisations.Participate in community-based programs, including Yarning Circles at Kurri, strengthening community engagement and trust.Undertake home visits, requiring confidence in working independently and a current driver''s licence.Provide culturally informed communication, especially for mothers who may be experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring they remain engaged, heard and supported.What You''ll BringKnowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community and the ability to engage community members in the development, delivery and evaluation of culturally safe strategies that support positive health outcomes.Strong cultural knowledge and the ability to articulate cultural perspectives within a multidisciplinary team.Effective communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build trust with families and work collaboratively with clinical teams.Commitment to providing culturally appropriate primary health care within your scope of practice and in line with the HNE Health Aboriginal Health Worker/Practitioner Framework.Ability to explain and support families to understand clinical interventions and service pathways, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health needs.Capacity to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, integrated support for Aboriginal families.RequirementsHolds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.What We OfferAt Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD), enjoy a career where you''re challenged by interesting work and surrounded by spectacular locations.
