This is a hands-on role, with approximately 90% of time spent on the production floor, managing two direct reports, working closely with R&D, and reporting directly to the Director. The business has recently passed its SQF audit with excellent results, with the next external audit not due until May 2026. You''ll manage the day-to-day QA function with two direct reports. You will be working within a business that sees QA as a primary focus for production. In this business QA is not a revenue and output driven afterthought. Quality comes first! All systems and processes are already set up and ready to go for you! SQF audit has been completed with the next internal audit not due until May! You will work the majority of your role on the floor and be heavily involved in R&D in the creation of new products. (Training can be provided for the R&D function!) This role is for someone who thrives on making things happen on the ground, keeping the QA Function moving like a well-oiled machine within a business that holds QA as an extremely high performing function of their business!Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain, implement, and continuously improve food quality and safety systems (SQF, HACCP, GMP)Ensure compliance with Food Standards Australia New Zealand and the SQF CodeOversee QA documentation including product specifications, HACCP tables, process flows, allergen management, and manufacturing recordsConduct internal audits and support external audits and accreditationsMonitor Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Quality Control Points (QCPs), ensuring corrective actions are completedPerform raw material and finished product testingVerify and approve QC records and batch documentationManage customer complaints, investigations, and corrective actionsRaise and manage non-conformance reports with suppliersReview and approve product specifications, labelling, and packaging complianceSupport R&D trials, new product development, and process improvement initiativesConduct supplier audits and assess ingredient safety and suitabilityOversee calibration and maintenance of QA-related equipmentDeliver on-site food safety and quality training to production staffEnsure correct storage, handling, cleanliness, and hygiene standards across productionAccurately record daily production data and liaise with cross-functional teamsQualifications & ExperienceTertiary qualifications in Food Science or a related discipline (or willingness to be trained)Minimum 3 years'' experience in QA/QC within food manufacturingStrong working knowledge of SQF, HACCP, food safety legislation, and audit processesExperience with internal audits, laboratory testing, and customer complaint handlingBackground in frozen food or dessert manufacturing is highly advantageousSkills & AttributesConfident, hands-on operator comfortable working on the production floorStrong leadership capability with experience managing small QA teamsExcellent attention to detail and problem-solving skillsStrong communication and stakeholder engagement abilitiesAbility to train staff in food safety, quality control, and compliance proceduresWillingness to be involved in the R&D of new products and flavoursCompetent with Microsoft Excel, Word, and OutlookPhysically fit and capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentHigh integrity, reliability, and strong work ethicFree from food-related skin allergies and sensitivities to cleaning agentsThis is an excellent opportunity to step into a senior, influential QA role within a business that values quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.Ready to bring your quality expertise to a dynamic and trusted food manufacturing team?Apply now to be part of a company that values food safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement!
