The Radiation Protection Unit (RPU) within PHS is responsible for the administration of the Radiation Protection Act in Tasmania to protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. This is achieved through licensing, registration and a broad range of compliance and education activities.The RoleThe purpose of this position is to assist in the administration of the Radiation Protection Act, Regulations and associated policies, procedures and guidelines, carry out regulatory inspections and compliance activities, and the development of innovative regulatory management solutions. The role will also:Conduct regulatory aspects of radiation protection as an Authorised Officer under the Radiation Protection Act 2005.Carry out projects and inspections under the Radiation Protection Act 2005.Assist the RPU with the day-to-day administration of the Radiation Protection Act 2005, including preparation of authorities for issue and conduction of inspections to ensure that requirements of licence conditions and the Act are being met.Assist the licensing and project officer with licensing and administrative duties as required from time to time.Calibrate instruments and perform other health physics tasks as part of services offered to licence holders.You Will NeedTertiary qualification in Medical Physics or Health Physics or physics or a related discipline.Knowledge of radiation protection legislation applicable to the control and regulation of radiation sources in Tasmania.High degree of analytical, conceptual, and communication skills, including the ability to provide technical advice to senior managers.Note: Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all the selection criteria of this position to address in your application.Why TasmaniaTasmania, Australia''s only island state, offers unparalleled natural beauty and a luxurious lifestyle.
