About the role: The Customer Development Director Independent Retail, plays a pivotal role in driving growth through the strategic management of Metcash and 3,000+ independently owned grocery retailers and the Agriculture channel with a combined annual revenue exceeding $115m NSV. What youll do: Develop, coach, and inspire a high-performing team of 20 Associates: 8 direct reports (7 Account Managers and 1 National Field Sales Leader) and 12 indirect reports (Field Sales Associates). Own the P&L for the Independent Retail channel, managing pricing, promotions, trading terms, claims, accruals, and overhead budgets with full accountability and in line with Finance governance. Develop and execute a dynamic channel strategy for Independent Grocery & Agriculture, aligned to Mars Petcare Strategy in Action and the Strategic Customer Matrix, accelerating category performance. Lead account strategy deployment and field execution, balancing longterm initiatives with daytoday commercial operations. Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with customers, leveraging insights to drive mutual growth and deliver exceptional value. Deliver sustainable growth against GSV, TI, NSV, and GP targets while maximising profitability and efficiency. Champion digital, data, and analytics to enhance field operations, pet parent conversion, and operational effectiveness. Lead marketing campaign execution and innovation deployment to achieve objectives while minimising risk from hard changes. Drive operational discipline through meticulous management of aged accruals, overdue deductions, claims, and forecasting. Lead negotiation strategies and JBP (Joint Business Plans) with strategically relevant customers to secure longterm, mutually beneficial agreements. Ensure health and safety protocols are consistently maintained across all operations. What were looking for: A proven track record in delivering longterm business strategies in complex environments.
