The NDIS Access and Coordination Officer (50D) directly reports to the NDIS Support Coordinator and is accountable to the Community Health Programs Manager and is responsible for supporting the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to achieve their NDIS goals by coordinating: Evidence, Access and Coordination and Planning (EACP) and Remote Community Connectors (RCC) programs. Informal supports e.g. connecting with family, friends and other community groups or networks. Mainstream supports e.g. working with other sectors that have a responsibility to support NDIS participants e.g. Health (hospitals); education (school, TAFE); housing; and justice; and Funded supports e.g. the funding for services outlined in a participants NDIS Plan, liaising with service providers who can deliver these supports. About You To be considered for this position, candidates must be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to meet the below Essential Selection Criteria: SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL: Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for in accordance with section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist and/or a minimum Certificate IV in Disability Services or similar and/or equivalent knowledge and experience within the sector. Knowledge and experience of the NDIS Support Coordination function and why it is important in building a Participants capacity and to the overall success of the NDIS. Demonstrated understanding of the application of National Standards for Disability Services (Rights, Participation and Inclusion, Individual Outcomes, Feedback and Complaints, Service Access and Service Management). Relevant understanding of comorbidities faced by the general population in the Pilbara and the Western Desert. Knowledge of relevant service providers across mainstream and other community service sectors, including mental health and disability providers. Demonstrated understanding of episodic nature of mental illness and its impact upon a persons capabilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and other online client reporting systems. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in a competitive market environment where required to meet targets. Demonstrated ability to respond and adapt to competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In addition to the above, the desirable criteria are: Experience establishing NDIS in Aboriginal Medical Service or equivalent. Experience in human services disability, mental health, housing or experience in another relevant sector The position involves working with a multicultural organisation where the majority of staff, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA C Class Drivers Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) and Working With Children Check (where applicable) prior to appointment, in order to be eligible for the position. PAMS operates five sites, supported by a range of clinicians, community health workers and other ancillary workers. Although the successful candidates will have a substantive location (Newman) they must be prepared from time to time to work across any one of these sites should they be required.
