About The Role Karnet Prison Farm is a minimumsecurity prison located 75km south of Perth. The prison handles only male offenders and functions as a prerelease centre with a focus on rehabilitation and reintegration in preparation capitalization for their return to the community. The prisons farm covers an area of approximately four hundred hectares, comprising an abattoir, dairy, poultry and market garden for supply of meat, milk, eggs and vegetables for use by the states prisons. The Mechanical Shop Instructor operates an auto workshop for the repair and maintenance of mobile plant to support prison operations. The position provides onthejob instruction, accredited training and supervision to prisoners who work in this area. Responsibilities Supervise the daytoday operations of the workshop including preparing, planning and scheduling daily work activities for prisoners. Undertake appropriate onthejob instruction and training of prisoners with different skill and knowledge levels that work within the industry or service area. Undertake the repair, maintenance and regular audits of mechanical equipment such as, but not limited to, farm machinery and vehicles. Eligibility & Qualifications Trade qualification Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical Trade (specialising in Vehicles) A current valid HR class motor vehicle licence or willingness to be obtained. A current valid Construction Industry White Card Permanent positions To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
