Join us in making a lasting impact on our community and be part of our success story.About the roleWe are looking for an exceptional Senior Solicitor to join our Legal Services team. In this key role, you will advise Council officers on commercial and procurement matters and be a trusted legal advisor to our Chief Property and Assets Officer.You will provide high-level, strategic legal advice and support to the CEO and Council, navigating complex legal challenges across a range of disciplines, including in the property, privacy, public access and commercial spaces.Key Responsibilities:Advise on leasing, licensing, granting estates, and land acquisitions for the Chief Property and Assets Officer and team.Provide guidance on Council''s powers and responsibilities regarding public land.Advise on standard contracts, negotiate departures, and ensure compliance with Council policies.Deliver expert advice on government law, privacy, public access, and other relevant legislation.Manage negotiations and settlements with contractors and third parties to mitigate legal risks and protect Council interests. About YouThe successful candidate should have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent postgraduate qualification, along with a current NSW Practising Certificate. The candidate will also need to have a minimum of 6+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) in a senior legal role, with a solid background in local government and/or property law.To thrive in this role, you will also bring:Demonstrated experience in providing legal services, preferably in-house.Strong knowledge of and experience in property law, contract and/or commercial law. Preferable experience in local government or planning.Demonstrated ability to reason conceptually, negotiate effectively and to resolve complex problems and high priority issues.Ideally an understanding of legislative, operational and political structure within which local councils function.Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and lead in a professional environment.
