This includes mainline tunnels, cross passages, access shafts, ventilation shafts, portals, and associated assets. The role focuses on safety, operability, maintainability, reliability, and whole-of-life optimisation, supporting an operator-led design approach throughout the V-cycle. The scope of the role will evolve as the project progresses. In this role, you will:Maintain tunnel-related sections of Concept of Operations documents and ensure translation into O&M needs and project requirementsReview tunnel designs and changes to ensure operability, maintainability, reliability, and safetyConduct detailed O&M-focused analysis of tunnel works package designs, including:Tunnel ventilation and lightingTunnel fit-out, security, alarms, and monitoringNoise and vibration performanceWalkways, rails, ramps, and access provisionsCables, cable containment, earthing and bondingDrainage systems and tunnel lining maintainabilityEnsure tunnels, cross passages, access shafts, station boxes, intervention and ventilation shafts, and portals are fit for purpose over the full asset lifeEnsure future-proofing of SRL North for tunnel intervention, evacuation, and construction/delivery augmentationEnsure consistency of tunnel systems and standards across multiple tunnel contractorsPerform Risk-Based Training Needs Analysis (RBTNA) to support tunnel operations, maintenance, and incident response trainingCoordinate development of O&M manuals for tunnel assetsContribute to interface definition between tunnel systems and other sub-systemsParticipate in design reviews and promote an operator-led design philosophyOwn and improve lifecycle cost (LCC) assumptions through the design phaseMaintain tunnel configuration, processes, and O&M documentation, and support audits and inspectionsSupport change management to ensure safety and operational readiness ahead of testing and commissioningEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practiceProvide technical guidance within your area of expertiseAbout You:You are an experienced rail professional with strong technical expertise in tunnel systems and a deep understanding of operational and maintenance requirements in safety-critical environments. You will bring:Master''s degree in Engineering or a related discipline710 years'' experience in railway tunnel operation and maintenance, tunnel definition and design, manufacturing, testing, and commissioningStrong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work effectively with cross-functional teams, contractors, and external stakeholdersCertification or training in relevant system technologies or methodologies (desirable)Experience with project management methodologies and tools delivering complex system projects (desirable)
